Dansk er et nordgermansk sprog, der stammer fra det norrøne sprog talt af vikingerne. English is a West Germanic language that originated in medieval England, evolving from the Anglo-Frisian dialects brought by Germanic invaders in the 5th century. Old English developed into Middle English following the Norman Conquest in 1066, incorporating a significant number of French loanwords. Early Modern English emerged in the 15th century, influenced by the Renaissance, the invention of the printing press, and standardization of spelling and grammar. Over time, English spread globally through colonization, trade, and cultural influence, becoming the lingua franca of international communication, science, and business. Today, English is spoken by hundreds of millions as a first language and by billions as a second language, with diverse dialects and rich literary, scientific, and cultural traditions.
