Opening Google Forms

Open your web browser and go to the Google Forms page at https://forms.google.com. If you're not already signed in, click on the "Go to Google Forms" button and sign in to your Google account.

Creating a New Form

Click on the "+" button to create a new blank form. At the top of the form, click on "Untitled form" and type in the title of your sign-up sheet. Below the title, there's a field for the form description. Type in what the sign-up sheet is for and any instructions you want to give.

Adding Questions

To start creating questions, click on the "+ Add question" button on the right side of the page. Type in your first question or information field such as "Name". Click on the "Multiple choice" dropdown menu and select "Short answer". This will allow the person signing up to type in their response. To make the question required, click on the slider button next to "Required" at the bottom right of the question. Repeat steps for any additional information you want to collect like "Email", "Phone Number", "Preferred Time Slot", etc.

Sharing Your Form

After you've added all your questions, click on the eye icon at the top of the page to preview your form. If everything looks good, you're ready to share your form. Click on the "Send" button at the top right of the page. You have several options for sharing your form: via email, via a link, or by embedding it on a website. Choose the option that works best for you.

Tips and Best Practices

Always make important fields like "Name" and "Email" required so you can easily get in touch with the people who signed up. Use the "Multiple choice" or "Checkbox" question type if there are multiple options but only one or few should be chosen. For example, if you're asking for a preferred time slot, list the options and allow them to choose. Keep your form as concise as possible. The simpler your form is, the more likely people will complete it.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Avoid asking for sensitive information unless absolutely necessary. Google Forms are not the most secure method of collecting sensitive information. Don't forget to test your form before sharing it. This will help you ensure that all questions are clear and working properly.
