Die deutsche Sprache gehört zur westgermanischen Sprachgruppe und hat ihre Wurzeln im Althochdeutschen, das im Frühmittelalter gesprochen wurde. Mit der Zeit entwickelte sich Mittelhochdeutsch, beeinflusst durch Handel, Religion und Literatur. Die Einführung des Buchdrucks und die Standardisierung der Grammatik und Rechtschreibung im 16. Jahrhundert trugen zur Vereinheitlichung bei. Während der Aufklärung und der industriellen Revolution wurde Deutsch zunehmend als Bildungssprache und in Verwaltung und Literatur verwendet. Heutzutage ist Deutsch Amtssprache in mehreren Ländern, wird in Bildung, Medien, Wirtschaft und Verwaltung genutzt und besitzt eine reiche literarische Tradition, die von Klassikern wie Goethe, Schiller und Kafka geprägt ist. Die Sprache hat zahlreiche Dialekte, die regionale Identität und Kultur widerspiegeln.
